October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

#AHNPinkFight2024

The American Cancer Society estimates 2,880 Nevadans will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024, and 430 will die of the disease.

This year, Access to Healthcare is seeking help to raise funds for breast cancer treatment for our Access Medical Cancer Program members. Over the years, we have raised $502,246.00 and have been able to change 497 lives.

Women enrolled in the Access Medical Cancer Program are uninsured and can’t get treatment any other way.

Our Access Medical – Cancer Program navigates members and their families or caregivers through the healthcare system to overcome barriers and facilitate timely access to quality, affordable medical and psychosocial care from diagnosis through all phases of their cancer treatment up to remission. Some of the barriers members may encounter include but are not limited to finances, communication, health education, food, transportation, child care, rent and utility assistance, and emotional support during patient treatment.

Within this last year…

  • We’ve had 48 members diagnosed with breast cancer.
  • Our access medical cancer program has helped 43 women with treatment. However, this help wouldn’t have been possible without the support of local organizations and our community.
  • On average, treatment for these women in our community will cost $15,000+.

Screening saves lives. Have you had your mammogram this year?

The Task Force recommends that women who are 40 to 74 years old and are at average risk for breast cancer get a mammogram every 2 years. Women should weigh the benefits and risks of screening tests. Different screening recommendations may be used for women at higher than average risk.

Are You Eligible for Free or Low-Cost Screenings?

The Women’s Health Connection (WHC) program administered by Access to Healthcare Network provides breast and cervical cancer screening and diagnostic services to low-income women who are uninsured or underinsured (cannot afford the cost of care). Thanks to the generosity of WHC providers, Nevada women who meet certain qualifications may be eligible to receive FREE cervical and breast cancer screenings at no charge.
